I just linked my BHO Blog posts from the last couple of weeks.
I wrote a forum post question about pinky pull-offs and received an invite from @AndyW and 2 others to begin blogging our practice and encouraging each other as a group. It has been helpful, interesting, inciteful and fun. We think you will enjoy it too.
This led to getting this group going and having Dan Levenson, @clawdan, author of this and many other clawhammer books, known as the best clawhammer player in the US join us in this group. This is very exciting for us!
After this book we will be very well versed in playing the keys of Double C and Double D but what about other clawhammer keys? I feel less sure ... how do I apply his "one finger per fret," rule then? This book has been so thorough ... how can we understand and learn more keys? He has offered to help us little through this group.
I have been watching Banjo Blitz by Tom Collins and highly suggest it to you also. Tom has put out such great teaching materials that he has built my trust in what he says. I asked him what he thought I should work on after this and he said to stick with Dan Levenson since everybody has there own way of doing things. He had already sent me to Dan's book, CHBFS. So I have already purchased "Buzzard Banjo," "Festival Tunes," and Dan's hymn tunes, can't recall the name right now.
I have also looked over Rocket Science Banjo and found it very interesting. He really writes dialogue in a numerous, personable way! I wish it could be edited down to a printable amount of pages though. His chapter on memorization is one of the best I have seen and agrees with everything I have seen as an educator.
Currently I am playing the Kitchen versions. I am very enthusiastic about my banjo. I wake up and go to sleep thinking of it.
I do not know anyone who plays. I go to church on Saturdays so I have not visited Elderly for any of their Saturday programs with famous players. They are quite a journey from me anyway.
Thanks for joining our group and sharing ideas.
