CB from Scratch, Vol 1 + 2 DVD or CB from Scratch: A Guide for the Claw-less?

From Boadicea on 11/15/2017 3:47:39 PM

Do these come together or are the book and CD two different items?

Clawhammer Banjo (CB from Scratch, Vol 1 + 2 DVD) from Scratch, Volume 1 and 2 by Dan Levenson DVD $24.89

Clawhammer Banjo (CB from Scratch: A Guide for the Claw-less!) from Scratch: A Guide for the Claw-less! by Dan Levenson Paperback $19.97

I ask because my library lets us make suggestions, as I am not sure yet if I will do Clawhammer I thought to ask which is the best one?

Do you need both?

Or do you get the DVDs with the blook?

Or do you get the book with the DVD?

Or does the DVD incorporate the book?

I don't want to buy anymore books until I have seen them and looked at them in order to see if they meet my learning style, I want to see if I can understand what is happening on the DVDs and also I don't have an open backed banjo yet etc.

Cheers,
Kate

@Boadicea these are separate. He does have 3 or 4 free videos that accompany this book on BHO in the teaching learning section. Personal preference ...

Hi Kate,
As Northl says, they are separate items that are each stand alone depending upon how you best learn and what you are looking for. (I DO offer them together as a "beginners special" for $40 plus $7 shipping which does save you a lot if you want both).

That said, they do complement each other. Basically the DVD set works through my "scratch" progression on one tune - Spotted Pony - and is, of course, visual so you get to see what I do. The book follows the same progression but you get 12 regular jam tunes, all broken down step by step and you download the sound files for all of the tunes, exercises and a fiddle version of each tune to follow.

SO, if you are a visual learner, DVD might just do it but you are on your own for more than just the one tune. If you do well with books and audio files, you don't need the DVD.

I think both help and that is why I offer the Beginners Special on my website.

Thank you for asking.

Play Nice,
Dan

Heya Dan,

that sounds great!

I am going to get my local library to buy them! They are really good on musical books and DVDs and then I can have a good look at them.

Currently I am angling for a open back banjo, so the beginners special is in my (hopefully) near distant future. But then I want a better scruggs type banjo.

Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Both resources complement each other and as Dan says will assist in meaningful learning.

Great Kate! Have them check with MB directly. I believe they once had a library pricing program.

Is MB Mel Bay @Clawdan?

What are the ISBNs for both of these please Clawdan? To order them I need bot provided both ISBNs I found one but not the other. I am in Australia so I am not sure what occurs in other countries.

I want to give the library both your web address and Mel Bay's url.

Cheers,
Kate
