Need help choosing a new head for my BlackJack

From Lonesome Will on 11/18/2013 10:01:32 AM

I have a 2004 Blackjack all original. After spending several hundred dollars on setups, I have decided to try a different head.  The original head is still on it.

I like the tone of the banjo but I want more volume that is full and bright but not too thin and choked down.

I have tried different bridges and strings but I am interested in hearing what parts and setups that you guys have been happiest with.  Thanks

Hey Randy,I am using an AMB head and a snuffy smith gen two bridge right now .head tightness set at 91 on a drum dial.Tailpiece is set pointing slightly up towards ebony on bridge.Oh yeah the bridge is a 5/8 height hope this helps.

It helps a lot! Thanks for being so specific. I will try it as soon as I get the head and drum dial. I am now using an older Snuffy 5/8 bridge. Will
let you know.
Any others care to chime in?
