What number on your drum dial makes your banjo sound best?

I personally have never used a drum dial. I have always tapped tuned the head. Does the drum dial consistantly tune the head with different brands of heads, like 89 for a remo and 89 for a 5star tune it to the exact same pitch? I relieze a lot of brands are actually made by Remo but just to the ordering companies specs.

Once I get the banjo matching my target sound, I record the drum dial setting, and then I'm able to monitor the head as the humidity and temps change to keep it around my target. If I change any of my setup (e.g., bridge, tailpiece height) I start over. So, my drum dial setting might not work for someone else's setup and target sound. But it seems like high 80's is common for masterclone flatheads theses days.

I'm finding that 91 is making my Blackjack...really come alive.

After 4 months of playing in the Blackjack.I now set the head at 89.on the Drum Dial.It seems after a Banjo has "broken in" you can lower the head tension.

My 75 came with a Snuffy Smith bridge.I was wondering if that was standard since the Crowe model came out, and if so how many of us are still using it?

91 works well on my Blackjack. Interesting, though, that there are so many 89s here. I'm going to have to try that since I've been playing this banjo for ~a year and a half now.

I've got my blackjack setup at 91 right now. I've been up to 92 but that seemed too high. I may try the 89 to see if that works. I can't really get this one to open up yet but we'll see if this works.
