Why is the Blackjack version of the RB75 so dry and sweet sounding?

Certainly it has a lot to do with the Crowe tone ring. It is a contributor to good sound in both banjo models. Maybe it is the gold plating over copper flashing on the Blackjack version of the tone ring? It is about the only difference between the two banjos except for the V'd neck profile. The old Granadas were plated gold over copper flashing and they have a very recognizable tone quality too. But in the end I suppose we'll never know what makes the Blackjacks sound so "dry and sweet." They just do.

Let's not overlook that V neck. I believe that both the wood the neck is made from and it's cross section have a major effect on tone.

Agree on the possible effects of neck mass and stifness.
