hey! there's an auction site for the State of VA where they sell items taken by the state from drug dealers, people a little behind in their taxes, and various other things. I was notified that they had an Ep Les Paul Standard guitar in that cherry sunburst, and it didn't look too bad from the pic they put on the site. I bid, then re-bid, until I thought I had gone too far at $209...later, I was notified that I was out-bid and I really was relieved.....today I went onto their website to find that, on the last day, it was bid up 13 times to a final bid of $575! This is not a Gibson, but an Ep...great guitar, I'm sure, but you can buy it new for less than that. So, I'm wondering, is this the way with all auctions? Is it best just to stay clear of auctions when looking for banjos/guitars etc? Do only complete idiots (like me) bid on these things?
