It has been difficult getting into banjos in this part of the world.....I found only two in the entire city; one 6 string banjo at a large mall, and an unplayable 4 string in the local music museum.
I decided to build my own banjo and enlist the services of a guitar factory owner who knew next to nothing about banjos. This has been a head ache since well before Christmas.
I decided to modify the neck I purchased from the above mentioned factory and make a salad bowl banjo using the skin of a goat my extended family butchered and ate during a recent festival.
How many banjo players can boast that they ate the goat that covers their banjo....? Not many I assume.
Anyway, I am thrilled with my plans to build the salad bowl banjo. In the mean time, I am practicing with a ukulele that I originally tuned to open G, but now I have it tuned to open F: F'FAC...Of course I'm missing the number 4 string that would have been tuned to a low C, but at least I'm getting my feet wet.
I'll take some photos tomorrow. In the mean time, I sent this video to my friend in England to let him know how excited I was to start banjo playing with my uke...Enjoy - but keep in mind that I had only been playing about two days when I made it.
