March 18th was my one year Al-iversary. I hadn't really made any serious attempts playing pre-Al so I guess it was also my one year anniversary on the banjo.

With Yoda Eisanman's guidance over the past year I feel like I've been making good progress, or at least as good as my schedule has allowed me. During that time I've gone from a beginner's banjo to a more professional model (Nechville Phantom) and from Cripple Creek to Foggy Mountain Pt 6.

I still can't remember sh*t as I'm reminded every time Al tells me something like "Alright now play Transition 2 followed by Backup and Fills 4 then Transition 3 into the D part at the end of Foggy Mountain pt 1". At which point I begin furiously opening the tab images to find out what the hell it is I'm supposed to be playing.

I know I'm mostly preaching to the choir here but if you're just stopping by and reading this, Fiddlin' Al is one heck of a teacher. I'd recommend him to anybody. I feel like I hit the jackpot when I made the decision to start lessons with Al and am looking forward to continuing my banjo education over the coming year.

	MoPac fan says: 3/24/2014 2:26:26 AM Well one thing I've learned for sure, you mark progress on the banjo in years, not months. Keep on plugging! Oh, you aren't alone. Al does that to me to, "Play transition seven, followed by fill number two." and I just draw a blank. LOL, like you, I know all the transitions and back up fills, just not on demand.
