First gig with my new band tonite!

From loukiii on 9/19/2014 7:51:12 AM

I have my first gig with my new band "Gators In The Sawgrass" tonight at Bauser's in Dunedin, FL and I am so excited.  This time I am not sitting in for the banjo player. I AM the banjo player.

I found them on Craigslist, they were looking for a banjo player. The guy writes his own songs and we play mostly original material and it is a mix of country, bluegrass, folk and rock. Kind of a relief because I don't have to worry about playing it like (insert legendary banjo god here) with (Insert band name here).

We got a full schedule coming up over the next few months from Ft. Meyers to Tallahassee, including St. Pete, Dunedin, Safety Harbor and Orlando, and a festival in Wimauma too. And we are already working on a CD too. That is a whole new animal. Kinda like playing with band in a box but with lotsa stress lol.

We got stickers, tshirts and coozies too. lol. And tank tops for the ladies... woo boy! This is gonna be an adventure!

Wimauma (pronounced Why Mama?) Dud you're uptown now. I'll try to catch the show in Orlando. Maybe you can comp me some tix and an all areas pass.

Seriously cool! I wish I had time or energy to just jam, much less rehearse and be in a band.

That should read Dude, You're uptown now, not dud. LOL! Best of luck.

The Wimauma festival is called The Back 40 Festival and it is at the Little Manatee River State Park.
The Bluegrass Police might take issue with some of our music... but it's not like bluegrass bands are beatin my door down begging me to play for them if you know what I mean.

Orlando Brewing Co. Nov 21st. I'll buy you a beer.

Bet. My birthday is Nov. 10, so this can be my birthday party. Me and Deb will come over. When is the festival in Wimauma?

Congratulations! If I wasn't across the United States (Oregon), I would come to see you play! I am excited for you, gives me inspiration to keep up my practice!

The Wimauma thing in on Oct 11. I think we are the only "Bluegrass" band playing... I can almost smell the patchouli already...

Deb works on Saturdays. Maybe I'll just grab a friend and take a road trip to Why Mama.

I went to see Tony Rice a few years ago in Polk City at Fantasy of Flight. It was called "Wings and Strings Festival. Roy Bookbinder was there. And Peter Rowan. Eddie Adcock. It was a cool festival but you never saw so much tie-dye in your life. Strange smells filled the air. Why Mama sounds like fun.

...Wimauma was founded by Captain C.H. Davis in 1902. That year, Davis helped build the Seaboard Air Line Railroad connecting Turkey Creek and Bradenton. Davis decided to found a town at the half-way point, opening a post office there in on October 24, 1902. Davis named the town by taking the first letters of the names of his three daughters, Willie, Maude, and Mary...

I didnt take any prisoners. There really wasnt a good selection to choose from anyway. Such is life in a quasi-bluegrass mixed genre band.

I haven't heard. How did Wimauma go?

Wimauma was funner than stompin baby chickens! There was a pretty decent crowd, the weather was beautiful and I felt like I played flawlessly for once. Now when I say flawless, I dont mean it was good, but I didnt feel like I made any mistakes lol. The gig was short, only 30 minutes but we got 8 songs in and everyone seemed to enjoy us. There was free beer and we got paid too. lol Cant top that.
We also played a fest in Downtown St. Pete and there where about 300 people packed into a little beer garden. I was a little freaked out by all the people but as soon as I started playing everything went fine. I really enjoy playing out.
