No more Garage Band. I've had it up to here and past. Once again for no apparent reason GB has started to wipe out real instrument tracks with no warning. Now it won't even write new real instrument tracks. So I can't use the expensive mastering software I bought to remaster all my stuff. Even wipes them out on projects restored from backups. Re-installed Mac OS. Reinstalled GB. No good.
Bought an Apple support ticket. Waste of money. Clueless people who don't know software and assume I don't know how to delve into Mac OS and can only recommend to do what I've alredy done, and don't really believe GB does this.
I'm switching to Reaper, at the suggestion of folks on the Tech Talk forum. I am taking my GB backup drive to a friends iMac where I will export all GB trax to AIF files (hopefully GB on that system will not choke before I get it done). Then those can be imported into the new DAW and re-mixed and mastered.
I suppose I'll have no new music output for quite a while... Reaper is a pretty steep learning curve. Hopefully it will behave better than GB.
Well, GB, we had some fun times. You were cute at first but I don't live you anymore. 'Bye.
