# 1914 ESS

From ronbrown1947 on 5/1/2012 7:20:50 PM

I am a relative newbe on the banjo but learned early on that quality makes learning a whole lot easier.  The ESS I own once fell off it's stand and popped off the peghead, it went straight to Frank Neat for a new  neck and that has to be the highlight of my ESS, your hand literally glides up and down the neck, it's a little thinner than a standard ESS neck and I like that, big hands and all. Couple that with a local luthier that knows what setting up a banjo is all about and so far, it's been an enjoyable journey.  An ESS and a couple of jams every week, it can't get any better than this.  If you have not treated your Mastertone to a tribute Truss Rod Cover for Earl Scruggs, look at my thread on the Earl Scruggs Truss Rod Cover, they are something special and very reasonable in price.

I have one of those truss rod covers, and it’s the finishing touch to a great banjo! Enjoy that ESS Ron! You are right, it doesn’t get any better!

Hey Dean, have not heard from you in awhile, things good down in Texas, hotter than hell up here. I must be getting seasoned at the 5 string, forgot about what I have and how it sounds (and that's pretty good), just enjoying learning a new tune or two each week. Giving lessons to keep sharp and teach newbe's how to pick and enjoy it.

Hotter than hell in Kansas too! Lots of gigs, the ESS is getting lots of action. 4 hours outdoor gig this afternoon in 106 degrees. It keeps getting better all the time!
