I was reading the classified ad for the Scruggs' special, and the seller's terming of the instrument as "Pre-flood" got me thinking...
Pre-flood banjos can be termed "Antediluvian", just as the Earth prior to Noah. The Greg Rich (era) falls in the Antediluvian Epoch.
Prewar banjos come from the previous epoch, which could be called "Antebellum", again from the Latin.
Any geologists, paleontologists, or bible scholars want to chime in? I'm thinking the "Bowtie-iferous" period is a brief (geologically speaking) slice of time in the mid Antediluvian where someone at Gibson thought it was a good idea to make pegheads shaped like Les Pauls. The Panbanjassic might be the roaring 20s, when four stringers were everywhere. Can we hope to have a post-deluge epoch? What might it be called?
