I think this is the 3rd "girls only" group on the BHO,and I hope it gets active! Cool photo you picked there. I play 5 & 6 string banjo,on 5 string I like to play both 3 finger style and clawhammer. What are you up to,playing wise? Learning new tunes, performing, etc?

Hi BanjoBelle! I didn't see any other gals groups, must not have looked hard enough.

I play 5 string 3 finger style, and started taking lessons 2 years ago. We now incorporate banjo into our band The Hardways. I mostly make up originals but add some old Americana too. We put a rock twist on it all though. I even use a slide for a couple songs. My goals are to continue to get faster and more accurate, so I can go back and forth between our current style and bluegrass.

How about yourself? Are you playing out with a group or solo?

Thanks so much for joining the group, hope to keep great conversations going!

Oh I play solo-for the moment. Do a fair amount of porch pickin,on mandolin and other assorted instruments when I'm not packing orders for my online music store or teaching via video chat. Would love to get into busking!

Ooh busking would be really fun! It would also be great to do a flash mob type of performance with people starting music in different areas of a square or park and moving in closer until they were all playing the same thing.

bear in mind a busker needs an artist permit from the city they live in-which can be purchased at City Hall. Or-as in my case-if they don't issue those, you can get a biz license and copy it and take it in your banjo case in case law enforcement questions you.

I did not know that, must be to separate you from a panhandler?

it allows you to take "donations" (when folks toss money in your case),and yes, probably to let them know you're not pan handling....and enables you to street perform legally.
