Howdy folks. My first Gold tone is a little used Plucky I picked up for practically nothing. I wanted to have something to throw in the back of the car and take wherever I go. Just getting it set up as the previous owner had lousy strings and combination as well as faulty tailpiece. I had to jury rig something out of wood and the new Nylguts are just now starting to settle in. I'm currently tuned in open G but don't know how that's going to work out yet. Played it as a Uke for a short while until I got some strings by mail. It worked fairly well that way. Ha Ha - that was fun.

	Grumpy1 says: 2/17/2012 9:39:32 AM Thanks for the reminder Cory. I'm trying out nylguts first as I wanted to go that way. I bought the medium gauge, non wound 4th to see how it works. So far it's working but I need a more permanent tailpiece setup, which I'm working on, before I can truly evaluate how they'll do. I'm getting some amazing sustain and bending/pull off notes so having fun in the meantime. GRIN

	JanetB says: 2/17/2012 8:39:23 PM I didn't realize that perhaps my Gold Tone Cripple Creek mini banjo could use a different guage string for different tunings. I know that I couldn't keep it in open G with the ones that came with it and never even realized that perhaps I should know exactly what they came with so I could replace them when needed. This must be true for the Plucky, too. I wish I'd brought mine with me when I visited my luthier recently. He could have put railroad spikes on the 5th string, which I've broke at least twice when I raise it too high. Glad you're enjoying your new toy, Grumps. Janet
	Grumpy1 says: 2/17/2012 11:29:27 PM Thanks Janet. Yeah, they spec the string gauge for your banjo on their site if you want to tune to open G. I really wanted one like yours but couldn't afford it. I saw one at the starving musicians last year that was a real good buy but didn't have the $$ right at the time. Kick myself I didn't find a way. Yours really sounds great. Of course a lot of that is the player, for sure. Meantime the Plucky isn't bad. A bit like a banjouke up the kneck but more versatile. It's all fun! Daryl
