What's changed in five years?

From D Webster on 8/27/2015 12:42:35 PM

I went into my local Sam Ash a few weeks ago. They had a new Goodtime Special on the wall that was hands-down the best thing I've ever played. Easy to play and sounded amazing, even in my hands (which is saying a lot). I nearly bought it on the spot, but didn't have an extra $700 to spare.

I managed to track down an older one on Craigslist for a good bit less, but it's not even in the same league. It's an older Gumby head model (2010?) that just had none of the sparkle and shimmer of the one at the store. I'm no luthier but I tinkered with it a lot to no avail.

Are the newer Goodtimes really amazingly better than they were five years ago? Or are the techs who set it up really that good?

I think they also moved to a 3 ply Violin Maple pot around the time they switched from the Gumby head...not sure if there were any other changes.

Both IMHO. I'm a fan of the Gumbys as I think they are brighter.
