Hello, I am a new member here. I have been reading banjo hangout for a few months now. I have been playing banjo for that long too. I have been learning on a Gold Tone CC-100R. It's a nice banjo and sounds good, but it was made in a factory in China, and I can't get past that. So I purchased a Hatfield Special last week. Arthur sent it out today and I should have it in my hands in less than a week.
I would have loved to driven out there and met The Man himself, but unfortunately I'm in Northern California and that's too much of a trip for me right now.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. Thanks for having me and I look forward to being to know you

Since I unfortunately (for many reasons) live in the SF Bay Area of California, there are no shops near here where I can try out different banjos. So I spent a lot of time combing through these pages and reading about different higher-end banjos. The way people speak about their Yates and Hubers definitely makes me want to try them, but the love people have for their Hatfields is a very special thing. Also seeing the videos of Arthur in his shop, sanding down the necks and building everything by hand makes me know I am getting a very special instrument. It can be a very tough thing to spend a few thousand dollars on an instrument you have never seen or heard in person, but thanks to all your words, I feel very confident that I am doing the right thing and I will have a very special banjo that I will cherish and play for many, many years. I will let you all know when I have it in my hands! Thank you again!
	Kevin S says: 12/23/2023 6:25:40 AM I, too, stepped up from a beginner banjo (Oscar Schmidt) to a Hatfield after only a few months of learning how to put the picks. Learning on a pro instrument made it so much easier and fun to practice. After five years I still play my Buck Creek just about every day. Hope you enjoy your Special! And I agree with ABJ. It sounds better and better with age.
