Hatfield near future!!!!!

From breck on 8/1/2016 7:54:47 PM

Ok guys and gals i just come across this group and wanted to say "hello" I'm planning a visit soon to Arthur, and was thinking the Aurora or Stoney Creek. Any input would be welcoming. Just by chance I had an opportunity to very briefly play a Aurora not paying much attention, however it left me with a very strong impression the neck was amazing!!!!!! I live in Bowling Green Ky so not to far from the man behind the builder. I've spoke with Arthur on several occasions via email and hopefully get there to see what transpires with his thoughts. I've struggled for years with my index finger and know that I'll never get to become a good picker but i sure love the banjo!!!!! Thanks for creating this group and I'll be checking to see what your thoughts are and your experiences. God bless you all

All I can say, breck, is that you will love your Hatfield, and how lucky you are to be just down the road from Arthur! Three years ago I drove from IA to KY to retrieve my Hatfield Special, and every day I love it more. I will never be worthy of this magnificent instrument, but it brings me tremendous joy. I wish I were closer to Glasgow, so I could bring my banjo to Arthur for some occasional tender loving care. Enjoy! You're about to give yourself the gift of a lifetime.

Ditto what Deb said. I bought my custom from its first owner. Made a visit to Art last year (from eastern Virginia) to have a tune-up. Art is a great guy, and you will not be disappointed.

Picked up my Buck Creek from Arthur at the end of March this year. Banjo is great in both sound and feel. Spent the night in BG before I picked it up early in the morning. You won't be disappointed.

I picked up my Hatfield Special 10 days ago. I drove from south Georgia to pick it up in person. My grandfather and I made the trip and stayed the night in Franklin, KY before riding over the next morning. Wonderful trip and memories with my grandfather but capped by meeting and speaking with Mr. Hatfield. Wonderful man and excellent builder. We stayed a while and talked about many, many topics, including banjos. I am envious you are right there in Bowling Green. If I lived that close, I would be in the poor house because I would be over at Mr. Hatfield's constantly. Just a genuine positive experience. I hated to leave and want to find a reason to go back. Oh, the banjo is exceptional as well. Beyond my expectations and ability by far. I originally wanted an Aurora but spoke with Mr. Hatfield and realized the tone I wanted was more suited to a Special. I am glad I listened to him. In Arthur We Trust.

I am not familiar with the models you mention but I've had my Buckcreek for two years now and on most days I like it better than my Gibson. I too will never be a great banjo player but my Hatfield makes me happy.

I picked up my Stonycreek #4 from Arthur three years ago, and could not be happier with it. It is my primary recording and performance banjo. Of the many banjos I have owned over the last 40 years, the Hatfield is the only one that I have not modified whatsoever. Whichever model you purchase, you'll be happy with your decision to go with a Hatfield.

Love it!!!! Thanks for the response. I spoke with Arthur today and he has a buckcreek ready to go. He's headed to the the Osborne festival in Tennessee and he's taking it with him, I'm assuming it won't return haha!!! Your right what genuinely nice man....keep picking that celebrity I'm still torn on which model I'm gonna end up with, but by the replies I don't think there's a bad one!!' Thank you for your feedback

I have to say that when I bought my Celebrity I knew it was the last banjo I would ever get because my husband is retiring and there will not be money for such pleasures from now on. I saved for 2 years and then my husband threw in the last bit. I had never played a Celebrity before but from all the good things I had heard about Arthur and Bev and having played my friend's Hatfield, I sent off and ordered my baby. I have never been sorry for one minute. My Celebrity has surpassed all my expectations. At first she wouldn't stay in tune but eventually she agreed to be mine. I think she was just missing Arthur's touch. Once all the pieces fell into place, just like Arthur said they would, she sang like a bird. You won't go wrong with your Hatfield. My only regret is that I didn't get to go to Glasgow to pick her up.
