1974 Gibson multi-ply rim began delaminating...took me years to figure out why my banjo sounded like a tabacco chewer who needed to spit, lol....I found the answer here in the newsletter, and also made a connection with Larry Hill of Helix banjos. Talked to Larry by email and phone, and subsequently ordered a cherry rim with flat sound hoop to replace the original rim and tone ring. Got my banjo back together after a little OCD fine finishing work, replaced Larry's Renaissance supplied head with a Fyberskin, cranked it down tight, and now this baby sings! Mellow and bassy with plenty of punch, and clean and clear! I play with an attacking right hand and needed the heavy head to tame the highs and overtones. This 48 year old banjo has been revived and set free with a new heart and soul! Thanks Larry!
