Midnight Zepher

From chucksiler on 8/17/2013 10:24:50 AM

I bought  Midnight Zepher #11 from another BHO member a couple of months ago. Its great, still at the top of my playlist. This one is a keeper.

Yeah, something about them, makes you want to keep playing them....
Congrats.

Since both of you guys have other banjos, tell me: how does the neck compare to you?

My only other experience is with a bottlecap fender and besides the sound difference; for me the playabilty of the helix neck over the fender makes a huge difference in being enjoyable to play. It's fast and doesn't stick. But like I said, I haven't played any other banjos so its something I've pondered. how does the neck compare to your others?

My Midnight Zepher is one of the Helix Change Out program, Helix rim/MB-350 Neck & parts.

as far as the neck goes, it's different. I haven't decided if I like it better or not. I've gotten use to it, it's a bit wider than my Deering banjos. but, the jury is still out on better or not, but it's playable for sure. The easiest neck to play that I've tried is actually my Cheap little goodtime 2 .
I can't really explain it, but it is.

I am guilty, if anything, of leaving extra material, it's conservative, I want my product to succeed. I think all of my necks could be shave or worked with a little, it's built in If I leave the material. I can definitely make thinner necks, Deering does it to spec all the time, they're good at it, \\

I just started a few years ago, I'm a quick study.

One of you has the only double cut headstock.

Thanks for making this more fun that I ever had.

When I had Black Cherry Blossom #001 made, I spec'd my own dimenesions to Larry. Was a SUPERB job. A bit narrower than my original Midnight Zephyr. BOTH had what I call "Players Necks". Nice and quick. Easy to get around. And BCB is aging very nicely!
