Hi,
I'm considering changing the head on my Goodtime Banjo to a natural vellum. I'm mainly interested in playing clawhammer and old time music and the plastic, frosted Deering head is just too bright for me. I like the look and feel of natural drum heads and I'm starting to wonder how a calfskin would sound on my Goodtime. One of the main obstacles is the flesh-ring. Could I use the old ring from my current Deering banjo head? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. One last point, I live in England so the climate is fairly humid and damp.
