I am ready to install a calfskin head from a 1927 Vega Little Wonder to a 1910 Tu-ba-phone and have been unable to remove most of the accumulation of grime, I would like to lightly stain this head and would appreciate input on tea or coffee/water mixtures used by other members. Also, I would like to know if the head should be "waterproofed" prior to staining.
