Totally inexperienced and loaded with anxiety, I bought one of John's hide heads, read the directions, and (gasp) disassembled my Reiter. A few more gasps. Hmmm, can it be this simple? I must be missing something. That's it?? Overall, the most difficult part was to recognize when the head was tight enough. When it started to produce rich, full, tones, I knew it was close.
It took several days of miniscule adjustments until the sound was just right. I've become temporarily smug now that my banjo makes the rich, plunky, deep, full tones I'd wanted. Thanks, John!
