	J-Walk says: 10/31/2012 5:41:30 PM C'mon man. No way is a banjo head worth $100 -- unless maybe in conversation. As in, "Yeah, I paid $100 for this authentic Rogers head." And then later, "What a sucker..."
	jbalch says: 10/31/2012 6:00:05 PM I could see paying the price...if you want an authentic hide head to complete the detailed restoration of an expensive pre-war banjo. Why not pay $100 for a head on a banjo that is "worth" many ten's of thousands? Probably better to buy this than to pay as much for a USED Rogers premount. I've seen those bring nearly the same amount. Will be interesting to see if anyone bids.

	jbalch says: 10/31/2012 7:18:44 PM No ... the ONLY reason to do it is if you MUST have an authentic Rogers head for a collectable banjo. Rogers heads really were different than anything available today. They were very carefully selected hides, scraped by hand, and sun-bleached. They were the BEST. No one does it that way today. Check out the Rogers Drum book on Amazon for great details. But ... I think you can get GREAT results from readily-available skins today. If you want something close to the old Rogers for less money, modern hides from Stern Tanning are VERY well made. Jeff's machine sanded hides have nearly perfect thickness. I do think that makes a difference when it comes to sound. I can't imagine that an old Rogers head sounds any better. Personally, I would NEVER pay the price for a Rogers hide to go on a modern banjo. A used pre-mounted head is risky (IMHO). And an old un-used hide like this one is very rare and certainly worth more to a collector than to me. I'd rather have something brand new.
