My friend has an unmounted goat-skin head which got stained with rust. I have not seen it yet, but have suggested he soak it and then daub it with an old cotton T-shirt.

What do you suggest?

	skybiker says: 3/14/2013 4:18:31 AM I needed to clean small rust stains from the Dacron wing fabric of my ultralight. Researching "Cleaning Sails" lead me to using Diluted Oxalic Acid. This is used for stain removal and restoring wood items to their original colour. It works very well and removed the stains in 10 or 15 minutes after which time it must be washed off with mild detergent/water then rinsed with clean water. A second application may be needed on stuborn stains. It is also known as an Oxygen Bleach I have used it today on the wooden pot and on the old stained velum of an old English banjo (mid 1930s) that I'm currently restoring. You should wear rubber gloves to avoid skin contact. Oxalic acid crystals can be bought at good hardware stores. It's great for removing stains but test for colour-fast first. Avoid using on Nylon Fabric
