We have had very high humidity here for many weeks now, often 90% and more. The goat skin head on one of my gourd banjo's has dramatically sagged. If I put it in the sun it tightens up wonderfully. (Funnily enough, the cow hide one on another gourd banjo has been OK.)

I am wondering if I can remove the skin and redo it. It is glued and tacked with PVA glue. If I soaked it again does anyone know whether it would soften up where the glue is and if I could then re-tension it again.

Has anyone ever done this? I looked through all the posts that I could find but found no info on the problem.

All help will be appreciated.

	Pluckin Mutha says: 3/11/2013 2:28:17 PM I've had some success with spraying both sides of the head with a waterproofing spray intended for shoes. I wait for a dry spell, removed the bridge, protected the fret board and neck by covering it with a cloth between the strings, (cardboard would also work), and fretboard, then sprayed it inside and out. I have other skinhead Banjos which are barely affected by humidity, but this one was a $10 Elderly head. Mutha
