I was tightening up the calf hide on my banjo and it shows a separation in the membrane. I was soaking the hide with water and tightening just a 1/4 of a turn at a time and the membrane began to separate. I still have about 3/8 of a inch to go before the top of the tension ring is level with the fret board. Looks like I over tightened it. So upset not sure what to do. I hate to buy another one. I do not believe it was a defective hide, Miller's did a nice job on their end.

	carlb says: 11/27/2013 6:22:58 AM Hope you haven't cut the excess away yet. Sounds to like you need to start again (i.e. remove the skin and re-soak it) and leave the wet skin a bit looser in your initial mounting.
	Papa-Joe says: 11/27/2013 4:20:18 PM I ordered a new skin this one developed a rip, It was a pre-mount. I just ordered an un-mounted skin. I also ordered a 0.20 inch thick instead of the 0.10 inch one I got the first time.
