OK, I have this gorgeous #9 which I saved, rebuilt, and had it up to speed, it played superbly! The original head finally split.

I chose a skin head out of my stash, and I can't for the life of me, fit the ring down on it. It's all original parts and it worked before!

What's the trick? Can I sand down the skin head at the edges? All the other heads I have, are just as thick or thicker.

I want my banjo back. Help!

	chucksiler says: 7/11/2014 12:13:10 PM Hi I had a calfskin head that I mounted and it was too thick, tried to straighten the flat tension hooks, and it killed the sound. It was about .020 thick, sanded it down to a little less than .010. It works much better and its soft & fuzzy like suede on the inside.
	TheLastWord says: 7/11/2014 12:56:23 PM Two things I've done in the past; clean and lightly sanded the inside of the tension, wax both the outside of the tone ring and the inside of the tension hoop with paraffin wax.
