I live in rainy Seattle - it's been a warm wet winter, (sorry about you in the New England States) but clear skies for a week now. My banjo did not sound happy the past few days. I finally got off my duff and checked the tension. Yep! Too tight- sound was choked. Didn't ring out like it used to. I loosened one quarter turn all the way around and it sounds great again. I don't get why this always surprises me - but it always does. It is so worth taking a few minutes to adjust the tension on a hide head. And sometimes just loosening and then re- tightening has the effect of waking it up!
