I could not find any 1/8 brass square stock to make a flesh hoop. I have 1/8, and 3/16 round. is it uncommon to use round stock?

	thumbdropper says: 7/23/2016 11:59:36 PM 1/8" round stock should work fine, but most folks, myself included, prefer square stock because there is likely less probability that the hide will slip. 1/8" square galvanized or stainless steel would work fine too. I have used 1/8" round steel wire, 1/8" square brass rod, and 1/8" square cold rolled steel successfully.
	existential_banjo says: 7/24/2016 3:59:40 AM I think round is ok. I have noticed that hide is like pasta, it gets stiff and hard after it dries. I used a coat hanger for a flesh hoop with no problems, no unraveling.

	jbalch says: 7/25/2016 4:36:00 PM Round stock is fine. I often use 1/8" round stock when mounting heads on vintage banjos where the tension hoop is thin. Lots of vintage heads are mounted on round stock.
	Uncle Freddy says: 10/30/2016 8:00:04 PM The best thing I've found for a flesh hoop is weed-whacker cord....really! Comes in a variety of thicknesses and is cheap and very easy to work with. Doesn't rust or corrode, which is a problem with steel hoops sometimes. I just cut it roughly to length for the specific pot, a little on the short side, and joint the ends together with heat-shrink tubing (the stuff used for electrical wiring). The heat-shrink tubing grabs pretty securely, but also allows for adjustment in length, should you need to get the hoop a little bigger to accommodate your wet skin. I've only done this on a handful of banjos, in the last year, but it seems to work splendidly. You can also get weed-whacker cord of different shapes, if you want something that will grab more securely, but I think the round is fine. I've also used 1/8 inch Delrin, but the weed cord is easier to get. Fred
