What this group is and is not about

From Jonnycake White on 2/3/2011 8:32:26 AM

If you have questions regarding how to tension a banjo head without spending big bucks on brackets and J hooks, or questions about how to build your own brackets and J hooks, this group is for you.  If you have questions on who makes the best 24-hole bell bronze tone ring, or whether you should buy a Presto or Kerschner tailpiece, this group is probably not for you.

If you've ever looked at  a frying pan or a pressure cooker and wondered how you might build a banjo from it, this group is for you.  If you've ever looked at a Gibson and a Stelling and wondered which would make you sound more like Earl, you will probably find this group to be of little interest.

In summary, this group is for those of us who love to build and play everything from gourd and minstrel banjos to mountain banjos to cookie tin banjos to bizarre looking banjos, and if we had an extra $2500 lying around we would probably go buy a used car or a new band saw, and not a banjo, since we can make our own freaking banjos for a lot cheaper.

I like to think that what we do is solve old problems in new ways while carefully avoiding any troubling thoughts about whether these old problems actually need new answers. If it occurs to you to ask whether or not to build a banjo from it, you probably would find more satisfaction in another group.

So, how do we "link" a topic to here?

Mike - at the top of each discussion there is a new green button called "link to group"
