Any one out there with experience, knowledge of using a mandolin as an 8 string uke?

	RJWMitchell says: 2/26/2015 4:07:08 AM back in the late 80s I had a mandola that I strung as an 4-course Tenor Uke, and then changed to a 4-course Baritone Uke. For the Tenor, I experimented with different nylon guitar strings till I found a combination that sounded OK. I think using 2 of the more upmarket Bari Uke sets worked a dream without needing to go any further. Both versions had great volume so that I could hold my own against the folk guitarist (steel string) that I played along with in a 2-piece gospel set-up. I recently did the opposite and set up a 20 inch scale bari Uke I had made as a 4-string Octave Tenor Mando. Not as succesfull = too few strings.
	Mercymando says: 3/5/2015 11:20:29 AM Gold Tone is offering an Octajo. Very interesting as it has two nylon strings like a mandolin and is tuned a full octive below a mandolin. The music store I buy from almost exclusively, is getting one in shortly.... and I just paid my charge card balance way down DAG NAB IT!
