Just remember how much fun it was and pick it up and pick. You'll remember how nice it is.

As much as I hate to say this. Maybe you just need a break. Not knowing you personally, sounds like you need to clear up what ever's holding you back (personal issues, home/ family issues, work over load, etc.) Once some of that weight is gone try picking up the banjo again and see if its enjoyable to play. If its not than maybe its not for you. Nothing wrong in trying, as long as you honestly tired. Like I tell new police officers when they start the job "It's not for everyone." Music is no different. If you get no enjoyment in learning a new instrument and it feels more like work than fun, then why
do it. Life it too short to not enjoy the time we all have. Or like I said before maybe you just need a break and let the smoke clear. Moving or any major life change is hard to manage. Sometimes you just need to clear your plate for a while and build back up to it.

No matter what anyone says or tries to be the cheerleader, its you and only you who needs to make that choice. Over the years I find most folks have already made up their minds and they just want some form of conformation from others that they are doing the right thing. But its not me your needing to impress, its yourself you needing to convince.

OK enough psychology. I need a coffee.

I would suggest that you learn the c, d,a cords, join a beginning Jam group and or get a Jam DVD and strum or Boom-chuck and play cords. It really helps your timing. And getting together with other beginners is great motivation. It has helped me. Hope this helps.

after reading your comment prairemik, i must tell you i have tried to encourage other beginners to join me i a jam session to improve our skills , but no one has accepted the offer.. and i did join a jam group but they only want to do their thing and leave the beginner behind.. i was taking lessons but was forced to quit b/c i was packing to move then unpacking after the move . i have a couple of play along dvds but am starving to play with those at my level so i will have something in common with somebody.. otherwise i feel discriminated against period.

Sign up for a Dr. Banjo(Pete Wernick) beginning Jam class if one is in your area. It will put you in contact with some other more willing beginners. Hope this helps.
