Banjo Setup Service in Merriam/KC area - DISCONTINUED

From derekanjo on 1/28/2014 4:26:57 PM

For those interested (my Midwest friends), I will be offering banjo setup services starting in March. I will be able to do everything except lathe work (so no major tone ring or flange adjustments), finish work (but I can refer you), and inlay work (again, I can refer you). I will do everything that I can (and everything your banjo needs) to produce the best tone from your banjo.

The prices:
$75 - The Complete Process: disassemble the banjo, check parts fit, change parts (if necessary) and reassemble with tone in mind.
$50 - "Don't Take my Banjo Apart:" I won't disassemble the banjo, but will change the head if necessary and adjust the components for optimum tone.
$25 - Head Change: I will change your head and set your bridge.

All three prices do not include price of replacement parts.

I will always insist on a new set of strings post-setup. You can provide your own, or I will have some for sale ($4-5).

I have my own line of bridges that can be installed if you wish. They are $25 each and can be made from several different woods, depending on what kind of tone you are looking for.

I will be sharing a shop with Mark Franzke in Prairie Village, so we'd have to get the banjo to me. I am extremely flexible with travel.

Does this mean that you're not traveling with the band anymore? Or are you working this around your picking schedule. Either way, I'm glad that you're getting into the set up biz......I wish you the best of luck!

I'm working this around my schedule. So far, we are a little light in dates this year, and I'd like to have a few things to pick up the slack without having to get "real job." Thanks for the wishes, Robby!

Hey Derek,
I sent you an email a couple of days ago. I would to buy a bridge and have you do a set up on my banjo. Let me know when I can come in.
Thanks,
Jon

I want to come by. I have a new Capek banjo with just a few little issues; also like to try one of your bridges.

Just so everyone knows, this service is no longer available. I don't live in KC anymore.
