using the dvd's

I have found that you can't stop and back up the dvd to catch something you missed.

you have to start from the first of the track and wait until it comes back around.

Am I doing something wrong?

Try useing the the A B feature on your remote control or you DVD player. This will allow you to start at one point on the DVD and stop at anothe, allowing you to watch a segment repeatedly. Joe

If you play the DVDs on a computer you can drag the little indicator on the horizontal bar at the bottom back with the mouse and replay it over and over,

One of my favorite programs is Ultimate DVD player. It is written by the same person that wrote Amazing Slowdowner. There are also several free programs that do the same. It will slow down or speed up Murphy without changing the pitch and you can pick out sections that you can loop to practice over and over.

No your not, they were probably made some time ago (volume 1 especially) I have trouble trying to jam with her playing playing Old Joe Clark (volume two) , she just takes off even on the slow version,what I do on DVD player is to use the play slowly button and it slows her down, it helps.

Thanks guys, I'll try your suggestions. I like the slowdowner idea, does it work for cd's also?

The program "Amazing Slowdowner" will work with CD's. It is what Ron Block uses and he suggested it to me at a banjo camp. Slowing things down and or speeding things up can be very helpful.

The best way to work with instructional DVD's is with a computer. For many years I used Windows Media Player placing the cursor on the progress bar and clicking to jump back/Fwd on a lesson. It worked just fine then I discovered the VLC Player (which is free) and enables you to slowdown/speed up play. It's even possible to loop a section no need to rewind a lesson click the start and end then there is no need to hit rewind.

I use my MacBook and (when I am at home) hook it up to a flat screen TV. Then I can, as Augie says above, drag the little cursor back to what I need to review over and over again until I understand it!
