New Member Greetings- And Offering Practice Loops

From BoogerWeed on 11/27/2011 9:18:09 AM

Hello All,

I am new to the group, and I would like to give a shout to Murphy, Casey, Red, and Chris for all of their great DVDs.  Thanks also to Oalbrets for creating this group.

From reading through the posts, I realize that many of the members here are more advanced than I; however, I thought that I would offer my assistance to anyone who might be interested.

I have created audio practice loops for the songs from Volume 1, Volume 2, Misfits, High Breaks and Backup, EZ Songs for Banjo, and Improvising.  With the Henrys' blessings, I am offering to share these loops on an individual basis, so, if you'd like to try any of them out, please PM me or email me at bpd223@yahoo.com.

I converted the DVDs to .avi video (using AVS Video Converter), then I converted the .avi's to .mp3s (using AVS Audio Converter) and trimmed them down so that I had loops of high breaks, low breaks, and/or whole songs at 100% (depends on the particular DVD, but most of loops are from the song introduction or "fast with guitar" tracks).

Then, using Audacity, I slowed the loops down, in 10% increments, to 60% (in most cases) and to 50% for some of the more difficult ones.  (This proved especially effective in getting the timing/syncopation down for "John Hardy."  I just could NOT figure that one out!!-- until I slowed it down to 50% and tried to play along several times.)

Using RealPlayer (or Windows Media Player) , I "loop" the songs so that they play over and over.  Now, I can practice the same song as many times as I can stand it, then I move on to others.

Currently, I go through my whopping repertoire (of about 20 songs) at 60% then 70% then 80% and then work on new material.  Of course, my goal is to go through everything at 100% and do well on the jam DVDs...  Still a ways to go...
