OK, not counting Casey and Red, how long have you been using the Murphy Method?
I have been at it almost 3 years, the last 2 steady ( the 1st year I got discouraged and quit for a while) and I am working on Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms and I am following the list.

hmmm, don't know about "the list", unless you are referring to the recommended order list.
But I've been using the method for a little over a year now.
Recently working on the Blackberry Blossom DVD. I have Roanoke left to learn on that one.
Someone in our jam requested doing Rawhide, so I switched over to that one. But, wow it's pretty tuff to get up to speed!
I'll put that one in the same league as groundspeed. It's one I've been trying to get to speed for some time now (kinda in between doing the others)
I really like the Blackberry Blossom DVD tunes. They're all instrumentals, but I like them all, my guitar player doesn't care for Katy Hill (all G, little D), too boring for him I guess.
I've got part of the way into the fancy back-up DVD, but each part takes awhile to master.
I think my next DVD will be in the key of C (wildwood Flower).

Yes, the recommended order list is what I was talking about. I started at the beginning as I was a new player, to the banjo anyway. Sounds like you are very far ahead. Thanks for posting!!

I've been using them for about 4 months. I'm on Cumberland Gap. I'm using the list as well. I should be a song or two ahead but I didn't do much during the holidays.

3.5 years; finished the lists and am stumbling my way through the Ralph Stanley DVD and also trying my tuners out on Flint Hill Special, but right now it doesn't sound too special, just ordinary, maybe a little less than ordinary.

3 years. Pretty much finished the list. Learning many non MM songs using the MM (I have a very cooperative teacher) so I can play with a group. Trying to work up adequate speed to play in the group. Spend too much time getting over "banjo elbow". Good luck to you all. Murphy is a great teacher and don't forget her camp in March.

I started the MM back when the lessons were only available on audio cassette, many years ago. I've gone through the lists (in order, which I think is important to the success of her lessons) and have been using her technique to develop my own breaks/arrangements/versions for many years now.
I've just finished working up "Locust Hill" and am currently working on a nice tune by Thomas Porter (Thomas Porter And Copper River CD "Trolley Days") entitled "Chester Frost" in D.
Obviously, I am a HUGE fan of Murphy Henry. Her MM has taught me to play banjo and enabled me to develop breaks to almost ANY song I want to learn. There are no limits to what the Murphy Method can do for you. :^)

Started Oct 2010 frm N.Y went down to Winchester on my way to Richmond for Thanksgiving 2011 and had 2hrs with Murphy.
Really great, got rid of my double thumbing on old Joe Clark and Murphy's Little Maggie. Got the list first hand, had done vo1,vol2(except cumberland gap which was told to learn,begining vamping, the next 2 to go thru are misfits and jam session standards which I hv. For me( no tab or read music, only by ear) Murphy and Casey dvd's are the best. I also think, which I do too much of ,you need to sit down and just play, pick rolls/picking, that sound good and put together a simple set of licks, and you will find youself using licks that you have learned. Other artists too, I also like ralph stanley and hv learned steve sparkmen version of pretty polly and basic ron block cluck old hen. I am never bored, i come home from work in nyc in the eves and play. Murphy and Casey gives you good technique building scruggs style foundation which is easy to learn.

Well I certainly haven't been at it as long as most of you...just 2 weeks. Can get through Banjo in the Hollow and Cripple Creek. Having learned to read music years ago, I must say I like the Murphy Method best. What is the list that everyone is talking about? Thanks! Bob

Like Just Bill I started when all she had were cassette tapes and she was in Florida. Sure helped me get started right, I still refer back to "the Method" when I need to learn a new break or just want to brush up on some things.

I'm am up to working on the last two songs (along with salt creek). I've used the MM for 6-9 months. Tried learning via different methods off and on for the past 18 years (srsly). Never got past boil them cabbage or cumberland gap. I am evidently unable to translate tab to the banjo so the MM works great for me and the previous "learning" must've helped my right hand because I do seem to be rolling through the list (pun intended).
btw I am averaging at least an hour a day. Again, srsly. It's just so much fun when you're making progress.
