Anyone else have trouble with FMBdown lick? For some reason I'm having trouble keeping my upper palm (just below the fingers) away from touching the 1st string. As soon as I begin to start the hammer on 2nd string, 2nd fret the meat of my hand presses on the 1st string.

Sounds strange but that's been a challenge for me. Any thoughts appreciated......Thanks...:)

Actually I just noticed I'm not supposed to be learning this song quite yet....a little ahead of myself on the list. Maybe that's part of my problem?

banjocase says: 6/5/2012 1:36:18 PM First, go back to Beginning Banjo Vol. 1 and review how Murphy teaches the left hand grip. Then, immitate Murphy. You'll shake the wrinkles out of this problem in no-time.
Tam_Zeb says: 6/20/2012 2:21:43 AM Like most Scruggs Licks & Rolls the FMB Roll takes a good measure of time and practice to learn and perfect.. Six months a year perhaps. Don't look on it as having trouble learning it. Think of it as a Challenge to overcome. A milestone in your learning process. Practice, Practice Practice and when your done Practice some more. Don't let it frustrate you, when you get stuck move on to learning something new but return every day and spend a little time practicing the roll. One day you will wake up and you will play it automaticly..
Tam_Zeb says: 6/20/2012 2:32:54 AM I meant to add, when you start out learning to play your focus tends to be on how to play the roll or lick, and not on your hand positioning. If you hit a bum note or you miss a string that is to be expected in the beginning. Don't beat yourself up we have all been going through that process. Learn to self diagnose the problem and work out a resolution. ie change your hand/finger position try again eventually you'll work through the problems. If you know another banjo player/teacher get him/her to check it out. But first review what Murphy advises
	somarmd says: 6/24/2012 4:52:08 PM Thank you for the advice everyone. I have gone back and reviwed Murphy's laft hand grip. I have been spending time playing the songs I know with Murphy in the play along section. Soon I will be moving onto FMB again. I really appreciate the advice, thank you.

There should be family joy about when you pick, don't you say? "Mikes Banjo mute," to quote, or not, right? Gotcha! I read the TMM Forum today. You're a good man, Sir, and the best to you. Keep on pickin' on.
	somarmd says: 6/25/2012 4:06:21 PM Banjocase......lol.......I actually have 2 reasons and only 1 of them is good. I use it when my wife is sleeping to keep things toned down a bit. The not so good reason is when I don't want people to hear me (when camping) due to lack of confidence. I'm working on the later....:)
