I need your help Murphites!!

From Moonpie50 on 5/10/2013 4:57:43 PM

I have worked through Banjo in the Hallow, Cripple Creek, Cumberland Gap, Foggy Mountain Break Down, and struggling like heck on John Hardy. I am doing ok with the introductory phrase, and down beat, but when I get to that dag gone D chord with the 4-3-1, 4-2-1 roll is killing me. Why? I saw where Tam Zeb said she left it and then came back to it later with no problems. What songs did you work on and then came back to it with Tam?

I think John Hardy is just plain hard but if you stick with it you will get it and you will know a great D lick.

The 4-3-1, 4-2-1 rolls are triplets, (which is different from the rest of the rolls), so it may be your timing on it. If you say tri-pel-lit, tri-pel-lit, as you play these rolls, it may help you in the timing. That's how I learned to play triplets. I still say this in my head as I play through this section to keep my timing.
hope this helps

Great idea Adrienne, I learned it some time ago and wish I have known that idea then ha ha. Just keep at it Vanessa and you will get it. Good luck

He TAM ZEB thanks for the advice. I am going to go over what you said when I get a chance. What I have been trying to do to is just set down and play the chords through using different licks, and rolls that I have learned so far to get my hands use to moving around. It helps me to do things without thinking and it helps me to warm up. I amazed at all the differnt sounds from the banjo that you can create doing this. Also sometimes it actually sounds like songs lol!. Thanks for the encouragement!
