One week in...

From Chris Herring on 4/1/2015 10:17:48 AM

Got my banjo two weeks ago and my Beginner Volume 1 DVD a week ago. I am working through the first two chords and 3 rolls. The rolls have come easy to me and the chords are coming along. Waiting til the chord changes are efficient and not finger by finger to move into the next section which will be song one "Banjo in the Hollow".

So far I like the style and I'm taking it slow (in fact the video states painly not to try the rolls fast) to develop proper form.

Welcome to the Murphy Method (TMM) community Chris! I've been at it for a little over a year and a half now and believe it's the best way to learn to play the banjo.

As a way of a challenge and a direction for you, make it a goal to make it the TMM beginners banjo camp this coming October. If not this October then next.

Here are the prerequisites:

Banjo In The Hollow (on Beginning Banjo Volume 1)
Boil Them Cabbage Down (on Banjo for Misfits)
Cripple Creek (on Beginning Banjo Volume 1)

You must know how to make G, C, and D vamp chords in the F position (on Vamping: Beginning Banjo Backup) and be able to move between the three chords.

Again welcome,

Tim
