Hello everybody, I would like your opinion about buying his teaching DVDs. I have Geoff Howald's books and he's a great teacher, and I do alright with it, but I have always thought that I like John's style the best. I don't know anybody who actually has a set of the DVDS, and I wanted to know if it is hard to follow. I regret that I didn't ever get to meet or see him in person, he always seemed that he would have really been down to earth. I enjoy playing and I admire his style of laid back and smooth flowing sounds. One thing about John, He didn't play the banjo like he was going to a fight.

	Wrags says: 9/10/2012 8:48:04 PM I got John's DVDs back when they were VHS tapes and would highly recommend them if you like his banjo playing style. I still re-watch them every now and again. They are a great way to get insight into his unique style of playing. The concepts he covered in his DVDs range from basic to advanced techniques. So if you are like me, you will get a lot out of them with the first viewing, but you will keep going back to them as your playing progresses to better understand and master the more advanced techniques he presents. These DVDs are not a stand alone step-by-step banjo method, but more of a series of pointers and banjo perspective from John. I met John in an airport once which was a thrill, but like you, I also regret never getting to see him perform in person. Hope this helps and Happy pickin'!

	banjogra says: 9/11/2012 4:24:08 AM I too have the vids (the banjo according to john) and whats been said above is bang on, it depends what stage your at, has to what you will gleen from them, has for me it was john who got me hooked, not earl or anyone else who made me buy my first banj.

Christian Mondor says: 2/4/2015 10:36:43 AM The two DVDs are worth having for anyone who loves the banjo. John's a master in his own unique way. I just received JH's 2 DVD set and so far have not bean able to view the accompanying booklet that is included in a PDF fine. (Homespun has just informed me that they will email the booklet--thanks Homespun!)
