Is this an ODE pot?

From 35planar on 2/15/2019 1:13:13 PM

This has an ODE neck and hardware, but I've never seen this pot design...y'all are the experts. What do you think?

I've never seen a pot like this before, but Chuck Ogsbury loved to experiment with his aluminum pots, and this may be one of them.
If he thought an experiment worked OK, he quite often would sell it as a banjo afterwards.

This looks like a series 30 pot that has had every other hole milled out, resulting in the elongated slots. It's clean work, typical of Chuck's tinkering; he was never sloppy when he did any of his experiments, as they were all possible production prototypes.

I can only suppose what his intentions were for doing this, but I tend to think he might have been interested in a weight reduction in the pot that didn't sacrifice the tone.

I'm sure it has a slightly different tone than a standard pot, and I would sure enjoy listening to a sound sample if it's possible.

For sure, as far as I know, it's a one of a kind! You joined a small group who own similar experiments. I'm one of them. Congratulations on the find!
regards,
stanger

Thanks! That was my thought, about milling the holes, but I would defer to you veterans in the ODE group. I appreciate the info!

Linked by 35planar 7 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
