Original Strap

From Jon A. on 11/11/2011 7:40:58 AM

When I got by Model 33, it had the original strap, but it was dry-rotted and unusable, and it also seems to have been shortened, maybe because of dry-rot.  I still have the hardware and the shoulder pad, so I would like to recreate an "original" strap using what I have left.  Does anyone have one they could measure the overall length and the position holes, etc.

Thanks

I THINK the strap I just put on my new Ome Jubilee is the one I got for my Ode longneck that I bought in 1962. The memory fails about whether I got it from Ode or just got the strap somewhere. I can't find any pictures of the strap the sold. Mine is black dyed leather [only on one side-the other side is suedey leather tan coloured, about 3/4" wide. The shoulder pad is about 1 1/2" by 12" and once had some kind of fuzzy on the underside which is long gone after 50 years of use, first on that banjo and then on mandolins since. I always just used the holes/slots in the ends over appropriate bracket hooks to attach it on the banjo so the only hardware on mine is a silver [nickel?] buckle. If this sounds like one you know to be original, let me know and I'll give you some real dimensions.

Linked by 35planar 7 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
