Finally bought the Ode 6505

From Jazzy Al on 12/23/2011 5:05:19 AM

I've been looking at an Ode banjo sitting in a music store a couple of hundred miles away for three and a half  years. I stopped in and played it when traveling that way. It was beautifully set-up banjo and sounded great. I occasionally checked the stores webpage to see if it was still there. The price seemed reasonable and I couldn't understand why it didn't sell. The banjo had a Gretsch labeled case with it but after reading Stanger's posts on Gretsch era Ode's I didn't see that as a problem. I had a hard time justifying the purchase since I own a Stelling Whitestar and a Gibson RB250 and they are nice banjos. However, I made the 6 hour round trip last Wednesday and bought the banjo. I have absolutely no regrets, it is an amazing instrument both in sound, fit and finish, and playability. I can't put it down. Many thanks to Stanger and the rest of you for educating me through the Ode threads on the forum. Best regards from Jazzy Al, the owner of Ode style C - serial #6-80-65

Congratulations Jazzy Al, I have an Ode stlye C #8-79-26, just a bit older than yours, purchased in 1992 with a Gretsch labeled case (which I covered with a striped bass decal). Can't put it down!!!

Is there any special technique to loosening coordinator rods on Ode C model in order to replace the head?

Linked by 35planar 7 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
