I had a 5 String MUSE banjo my father bought me in 1965. These were dealer banjos made by Ode for a couple of years. Mine had Cam style D tuners installed. Boy was that a beauty. I was a hippie back then and even had Randy Woods in nashville inlay a peace sign in the fret board(the 2nd if I recall). The rim was thick laminated wood with a heavy cast brass tonery(Chuck was experimenting with different tone rings because I've never seen another one like that). I played the hound out of that banjo until it was ripped off at Mozart's dinner theater in Nashville in 1973. I can sure appreciate yall's love fore The early banjos that Chuck Ogsbury made were premo. I would like to replace that banjo some day, that was my first high quality banjo and the only one my Dad bought me.

BrittDLD1 says: That would have been one of their early wood-rims, with their (new at that time) cast flathead tonering. Was yours an open back? Or a resonator model? Unfotuneately, those wood-rim ODEs and Muse models are hard to find. They were only made for about a year-and-a-half, before Baldwin bought them out. But, the early Boulder-made "Baldwin" banjos were also very high quality -- and are the next-best to the ORGINAL Boulder-made ODE/Muse banjos. Hope you find one! | |
