Ode Banjos undervalued

From momo on 10/20/2015 5:05:50 PM

I dont understand why would a Gold Plated engraved Walnut, Banjo like a style D is so undervalued..Bareley selling  near $2500.if this Banjo was being built now in this country it would be over $5,000.

Yes TIM, it would. Very well made with great parts.
I think the biggest problem with the later ODE's is the neck, it's just too narrow. There is a simple fix that works on most necks, 4 new frets & new wider spaced nut .
I have been making wider necks for the Ode/Baldwins for years, & others have too. Not that hard. When I can afford one, I buy a tenor or plectrum & make a new wider neck.
Every one that I have heard has had one & traded it off says wish they hadn't & would want another one.
I have all the other brands but play a Baldwin or ODE.

I agree with George, Tim. The ODE banjos are the best banjo that most banjo players "never played". The later necks are narrow (which is why I had Tommy George build a custom neck for my ODE) and to say that I am happy with the new wider neck is an under statement.
These ODE's can be setup and out perform other brands in both tone and ease of playing. But then again, the "tone" is subjective and I prefer the walnut tone from my ODE. These are not Mastertone's and are distinct in their tone; and like Tommy- that is why I play an ODE for it's distinct tone.

Linked by 35planar 7 years ago: Looking for an ODE 5-string neck, pre-Baldwin, dowel stick or no dowel stick, long or standard, tuners or none as long as the truss rod, frets, and wood are decent with no twist. I know, seems futile.
