I've been playing clawhammer for about four years, and I'm itching to learn something new. I am starting to play scruggs a bit, but I'd really like to learn some old-time three finger stuff, and maybe some two finger (I don't know which kind). Any suggestions for resources to get started?

	hobogal says: 7/13/2012 11:28:53 AM Hello there - I think learning some basic Scruggs is a good idea, as there isn't a specific tutor for learning old-time 2 or 3 finger. OT covers so many different, idiosyncratic styles including Dock Boggs, George Pegram and Charlie Poole. Often there is less use of that 'driving' forward roll that is used in bluegrass, and more in/out rolls and pinches. There are tonnes of bluegrass instruction books out there - I think Eddie Collins book 'Intro to Bluegrass Banjo' is one of the best. Once you feel comfortable with rolling over chord changes, you could then check out the tab books: Old Time Fiddle Tunes for Banjo by Nick Hornbuckle; the first book is for 3 finger, the second volume is for 2 finger. The Mike Seeger dvd Southern Banjo Styles vol 3 also shows different fingerpicking styles. Good site for 2finger: 2ftlbanjer.wordpress.com/ Banjo Chris and Hunter Robertson also have some internet videos on fingerpicking. Hope that helps Hobogal
