Alright folks...

From Zischkale on 5/27/2014 7:52:37 AM

Long weekend...how'd last week go?

I'm still not hitting my desired hour, but I'm making some great strides. G--your suggestion to focus on a double-stop arrangement of Blackest Crow in the Ignoramous fiddle book was excellent--I practiced fiddle for 30 minutes twice this past week, and have incorporated that song into my practice. Also been using your suggested double-stop drill. Opened my Facebook this morning to find the local old-time jam posted this Chocolate Drops video--haven't seen it yet but hope it'll motivate you for the week.

I also had two 15 minute practices learning Over the Waterfall on the old-time jam machine. Fun tune to play, 'cause it's got this flatted 7th chord that pops up (C in a D tune).

My practice was otherwise spotty, but been trying to arrange a tab of the Godzilla song I posted--one sections been a bit difficult for me, so I've pushed myself with regards to arranging in tab...

How'd y'all do this past week? Monday this week doesn't count, alright?

thanks for the carolina chocolate drop vid - brilliant

good to hear you are learning blackest crow on fiddle - i thought your banjo/vocal rendition for the banjo waltz challenge was beautiful, it inspired me to want to learn that song,
best

I watched it last night, it's a good one! Thank you for the kind words about Blackest Crow. It's Tommy's most beautiful song, on Clawhammer Banjo Vol 3 it's straight up magical. Sounds like some kinda enchanted pocketwatch or something.

Great tab in Round Peak banjo by Leftwich, but if you don't have that laying around you can find the melody notes pretty easy in open G gDGBD. I can post a quick video if you like!
