Well, have been continuing with Shady Grove mainly, still practicing my little solo up the neck - it is not flashy by any means but that's not really the aim. i think i'll always be the kind of player who favours simplicity. However - i just want to be able to put little bits in further up the neck here and there sometimes to add a little 'something'. have also been revising another couple of songs i already learned, for a bit of variety, to stop me getting bored/going mad going over the same song constantly.

i also started learning The Coo Coo after finding, by chance, Clarence Ashley's version on youtube, which is amazing. this doesn't really fit in with my plan of learning more up the neck - i can't really see me doing that with this as it is more a kind of 'riff' type accompaniment. however, it has been really fun. quite tricky though, i still need a lot of slow repetition to get it right.

in terms of time spent, i did miss a couple of days this week saturday and sunday, as just had a lot to do, but the other days i did around an hour - even the days when i was tired and had planned to just do about 20 mins.

	Zischkale says: 5/28/2014 7:33:53 AM Simplicity's nothing to shake a stick at. Doc Watson has one of the most beautiful banjo sounds of all time, and his Country Blues seems pretty straightforward. It's all about that groove. Not to clog your practice routine, but just to offer another video that comes to mind--Zepp has a Youtube video where he teaches his version of Cumberland Gap in Double C tuning, and it's all up the neck. It both teaches you why Cumberland Gap typically played in a unique tuning, and helps you play the tune out of a more common tuning, and up the neck at that. Great call on the Coo-Coo! Fantastic song. Rocket Science Banjo will be a big help if you want to get down Clarence Ashley's distinctive roll (a lot of fun to play when you have it down). Another good one to sing to. Sounds like you've got a good pace going, despite any missed day. Doing great!
