Trying to regain my footing here--last weekend was very busy with my wife and I seeing her sister off on a 4,000-mile bike ride from Austin, TX, to Anchorage, AK. She's riding with the Texas 4,000 group, raising money for cancer research (my father-in-law passed away one year ago). They are currently in the Oklahoma panhandle. I've got sympathetic butt pains for her. Sympathetic butt pains of pride!

All that to say I've been preoccupied with family lately so practice has taken a backseat. When I've been practicing lately, it's been to work on a couple of songs to play with a friend, which isn't bad but distracts from my big goals. I did get 30 minutes in with the fiddle on Thursday and Friday, and hope to manage that 5 days this week.

Gonna make it a point to work on my repertoire this week. I gotta get to that point where I'm comfortable enough to really entertain others with this thing! So I may not focus as much on the jam this week.

Hope y'all are doing great, and that G has made it out to a jam!

	VioletMoon says: 6/9/2014 8:59:44 AM "Sympathetic butt pains of pride!" is a delightful sentence. : ) It's interesting how many of us play both fiddle and banjo. I play fiddle with a mountain dulcimer player--we've practiced together on and off for a couple of years--and even though there are times when our music pulls me away from what I might otherwise be working on, I think it strengthens me as a musician and I really value the friendship that we have. Playing with your friend might do more for your big goals than you think. : ) Cyndy
	Zischkale says: 6/9/2014 2:19:47 PM I only picked up that fiddle to better my banjo playing! Good advice, Cyndy--you learn fast playing from others, for sure. I'm all about playing solo pieces but would be happiest with a 2-to-3 person group (or power trio, as they called it in the 70's).
