a short break...

From laertes22 on 9/30/2014 11:04:58 AM

Saddens me to say this, but I am going to have to set my banjo and fiddle down for about 1-1.5 months.

Two of my oldest and dearest of friends are getting married soon.  Being huge fans of Tiki bars and Polynesian themes in general, they have asked all the groomsmen to wear Hawaiian shirts, and me specifically to play the ukulele at the ceremony.  I am a subpar uke player at best and haven't touched my uke in months, but I am the only uke player they know, so I have to try to hit the uke hard for the next month or so until the wedding.  After that, I'll be back on the fiddle and banjo hitting the ground running.

Mahalo,

Gen

But what a happy thing -- playing ukulele for the wedding of good friends! A friend of mine sings and plays in a Hawaiian band it's pretty awesome.

Enjoy -- but come back to us soon!

Yeah that sounds like an awesome opportunity to share your music (plus you can CLAWHAMMER uke!!)!

Enjoy the shift in gears, it's refreshing sometimes! You'll probably come back to banjo/fiddle having learned a few valuable things about music.

Do they have any specific requests?

No requests as of yet. They are into Pop R&B/Hip hop, so I am thinking of doing covers of Beyonce's "Halo" and Outkast's "Hey Ya" at some point. I may try to do a traditional Hawaiian or Polynesian song and maybe a traditional wedding song if I can find a decent arrangement that is within the scope of my poor abilities.

how exciting - great when life unexpectedly throws up opportunities to develop skills. i've enjoyed hearing about your banjo and fiddle progress over the last few months - i've found it really inspiring - hope you'lll get a chance to let us know how the uke playing is going too,
best
Jill
